I borrowed a rcbs 44 mag three die set Off a relative. the set is missing the case mouth expander die. a guy at my club says if I'm loading cam pro plated bullets I should be fine to skip the case mouth expanding step and just seat the bullet..... anyone try this? other option is to buy the die I'm missing 45$.. or just buy a conversion kit for my square deal b for 140$ and save a ton of time...

Go back to your relative and find the expander die. When you get older you forget things, the expander die could be still in his press or in the wrong box.

Don't ask me how I know this.......................Some days its like "Where is Waldo" on my reloading bench.

Lee Powder-Through Expanding Die .44 Mag #90583 $16.00

Higginson Powders in Hawkesbury, ON will have one, they are Canadian Distributor for Lee Precision

Slightly related but kinda not... Boat tail bullets (.308 win, specifically); can they be seated without flaring the case mouth? I'm just starting with reloading, and don't have an expander die for .308. I''ll be loading only boat tail bullets.

16$ for a Lee die is a great price.. I never even thought to check Lee dies being that the set was an rcbs....

spoke.. we might be able to workout a deal... u would have to buy all my brass also though. the 629 u bought was a great price. I don't think I could match it...

Yes you can seat them if you have champfered the case mouth, so the edge will not scrape.

I'm confused, are you loading on a SDB? If so it uses proprietary dies.

I have a square deal b and an old rcbs single stage... I don't own the conversion kit for 44 mag for a sdb... I was Gon a leave my square deal b set up for 38/357 and load 44 on a single Stage... a single don't shoot 44 much it may make more sense... plus I have two of three dies for a single Stage for 44 mag... I'm missing the expander die...

Exactly, I haven't used a expander even on hard cast. No shaving of the bullet, don't bother crimping. Some guys on other sites are claiming better accuracy to.
