.44 Mag hollow-points in a Rossi Ranch Hand?

Hi guys,

I have some 180 grain Hornady XTP .44 Mag cartridges, and they have the hugest/deepest/widest hollow-point cavity I have ever seen.

Would there be any concern with them (ignition-wise) in the tubular magazine of my Rossi Ranch Hand? The diameter of the cavity is about the same size as the primer.

Thanks!

First impressions of the Rossi Ranch Hand ...

I picked it up at the Post Office today.

Wanstall's charged all of $10 for shipping.

Everything about that firearm appears to be far better than I could have hoped-for. The oiled wood is nicely-figured, and wood-to-metal fit is excellent. The blueing is deep and rich.

The action seems slick right-out-of-the-box.

I'll go piss-away $20 worth of those shells tomorrow, and tell you how it works. I was wondering about "the stance" and am thinking that a two-handed grip held at full extension will be just-fine. It actually seemed very steady.

Plus, I can take it fly-fishing legally and leave the hefty Marine Magnum at home. It's not quite as handy as a Model 29, but close. Cabela's even sells a holster for it, but I think I'll go for some kind of back scabbard.

Worth noting ... big bear spray (fresh) is the first go-to for me and my neighbours.

I look forward to what you have to say. Take photos.

Is the Rossi pretty much the only 16" lever rifle around these days...unless you can find a Winchester Trappper?

11.5" barrel

Actually, it's an 11.5" barrel. The firearm's total length is 24" and you can aim it and fire it just fine ... with both hands holding it in a kind of steady tension (left arm "locked" fully extended), or just single-handed from my right hand..

The "sight picture" is surprisingly steady.
