Was poking around the loading bench and found an old speer #10 reloading manual 1979 dated. One of the first loads listed is for .433 round ball! Light loads of various powders for muzzle velocity from 540-585 fps. Test gun is a ruger super redhawk 6" bbl. My question is, has anyone tried this type of load? Does it work well?
I am going to try it just for s&g. Should be a nice puff load.
 
I bought a round ball mould for my Ruger SRH and Puma in 454 that I've been meaning to try. Just haven't done any casting this year due to no place to cast in the winter(do it outside..).

It should work fine but you'll want to try a faster powder than you'd normally use since the bullets are so bloody light compared to normal loadings. If you want just a #### around load work up from the lightest loading you have in your book. I was personally planning to try them out on small game and to possibly use them as a plinking round at the range.

Also make sure the balls you get are a bit larger than your normal cast bullets as you want it to properly seal the bore and engage the rifling. Lubing them with alox I gather works great.
 
round ball fail

tried this out today and no luck with this loading.good thing I loaded 6. Two made it out of the barrell, 2 I had to pound out with a dowel and 2 met my bullet puller. no lubr used and 4 gr of universal for powder. also leaded the barrell too.
