I recently picked up a new Ruger 77/44. I have fired 11 rounds of Winchester 240 gr jacketed soft point through it. I reload for all of my other calibres so I saved the brass. Once I got home and had a look at the brass, I noticed that one case was split from body to mouth, about 5/8 in long.
I've mic'd the unfired rounds and they avereged .452, mouth, body and web
I also mic'd some unfired AE rounds , they averaged .451
I have some unfired Win brass that mic'd at .452
The fired Win brass mic'd .455 mouth, .457 body and .452 web
The split case mic'd .456 mouth, .458 body and .452 web
So WTF? Weak brass? Over sized Chamber?
Anyone else having problems?
