I will to introduce new shooters to the soprt with something more than a 22lr this summer... I'm going the 44 mag subsonic route for low recoil and cool factor. Do you have any loads with tite group or CFE pistol. I read that trail boss was a good one but I don't have any. I'll shoot 240 gr bullets with a 16in barrel, I got a chrony.

Try looking up .44 Special loads. Those will work when using the magnum brass. My bunny phart load is 4.9gr. of WST with a 200gr powder coat cast RNFP bullet.

I simply used Black powder "pyrodex" in my S&W model 29. It was smooth shooting and accurate.
I used the same charge I used in my 44 capNball revolver. 28grains
Ya a little smokey, LOL Its a cowboy action load. use 20g If you want even a Lighter recoil.

4-4.5 gr. of Titegroup with a 240 gr. bullet will be ideal for beginners.

Out of a 16in barrel using Tite Group pushing 240gr pills

5gr was 775 fps
6gr was 1550 fps

What a difference with only 1 grain of powder!!

That's why people tell you to be cautious using small loads of very fast powder in large cases. Because the pressure increase is not incremental or proportionate.

something seems wrong.

hodgdon lists for the 44 mag and using titegroup with 240gr bullet

4.7gr for 908 fps (11,100 cup)
and
10gr for 1432 fps (38,400 cup)

and for 44-40 data using 200gr and titegroup it lists

5gr for 956 fps (8,400 psi)
6.2gr for 1117 fps (12,900 psi)

Use 200gr bullets ....much less recoil

Any 44spl load will work fine in 44mag brass

Couple things to watch for with really soft loads in a 44mag rifle

Watch/listen for squibs ...they can/will get stuck in a rifle barrel....the recoil will be olenty tame so dont chase really low volume loads
231 or unique at around 6gr is as light as you wanna go

Also accuracy starts to degrade as the powder position starts to be an issue upon ignition with so lil volume in a big case ....should be fine for introing a new/young shootwr tho

I shoot 44 Special out of my Smith & Wesson 29-3. It is more pleasurable to shoot than the standard 44 mag. loads.

I made some 300gr cast 44special sub loads with trailboss. Was 600fps if I remember correctly. Mouse fart for sure.
Squib was already mentioned but I wanted to add, as you have new shooters. Be cautious of your backstop with slow loads. I had a couple hit something hard and come whizzing back.
