44 mag

Why would you want a pistol cartridge in a rifle? Not trying to talk you out of it just that a 30/30 or a 38-55 or a .375 win or there parent cartridge has more muzzel energy at 100 yards than the Rem .44Mag has at the muzzel!

Just a question I mean other than you just have to own one!

They are good if you have a need for one!~

I would debate this, according to Winchester the 30-30 170 gr power point has 1332 ft.lbs at 100 yards, the 44 mag 240 gr powerpoint has a muzzle energy of 1760 ft.lbs. I have been shooting the 44 magnum in a carbine for years, I find it a fun cartridge and inexpensive also. I think if you handload for the 44 mag and use good quality bullets it can handle most game at a reasonable range with the exception of the big bears.

I agree....

Actually the 44 mag and 45 Colt have more killing power in a rifle out to 150 yards than a 30-30.

The 30-30's higher BC's take over from there though...

the winny trapper in 44 mag makes a real nice shorty, and you 2 extra shots( 3 if you count the chamber) over the 30-30- besides, there's the extra bullet weight to commend it- 100yards and under, it's nice to have those extra 70 plus grains working for you- incidentally, i use a lee 1000 and a ruger redhawk

????!!!!

Black bear is my all time, no-contest, favorite meat! If you hunt where the bears cant get to a dump, you will be hard pressed to find a better tasting game animal. I have Moose, Elk, Deer, Caribou, and boar in my freezer......I like the bear better than any of them. The only bad bear I ever got was during the spring hunt (remember those?)....the boar had been feeding on winter kill carion, and was pretty much inedible. But trust me, get one in the fall that has been loading up on berries all summer and your barbeque will be your best friend!
