I had the pleasure of shooting my deceased father's old Ruger BlackHawk .44 magnum with 6.5 inch barrel, using my own reloads
of 5 grains of Trail Boss behind a 240gr cast bullet at 20 yards and got all shots into a five inch group!
This seems incredible to me because the last time I shot this gun - 30 years ago - I couldn't hit a 12 inch target at 5 yards distance.
At that time I was using commercial ammo and flinching excessively from the pain of holding the grip too high, trying to get all my
fingers wrapped around the grip instead of just letting my little finger go under the bottom of the grip.
Today, I also shot some reloads of 5 grains of Trail Boss behind a 200 grain copper jacketed bullet and only obtained groups of
about 15 inches at 20 yards (still got five inches when I fired off some 240gr cast lead). Any insights into the difference in accuracy?
I'm a novice at handgun shooting and the five inch group is wonderful for me (I still shoot 20'' groups with my TT33 at 20 yards)
