44 Magnum Rifle Collectors Hello

Oh boy... I've been bitten hard by the 44 Magnum Carbine bug...

Bought these two in the last few weeks.

So much fun. To shoot and to reload.
What make/model is that lever gun?

It looks good man!

It's a Smith & Wesson 1854 Stealth Hunter. Really pleased with it. Originally wanted the Ruger Marlin Dark, but couldn't find one. The bonus here is that with the money saved, I was able to put in a Timney trigger (very nice trigger for a lever gun), the Ranger Point Precision butt, ammo quiver, safety delete, lever take down screw, muzzle brake and the lower tension loading gate. Ended up still being a hundred or so to the good, and frankly, I don't think you're giving up anything with this new Smith and Wesson compared to the Marlin. Very very good quality.

I have one of those Rugers but the original .44mag carbine. Bought it back in the middle 90's for $450.00 Works great for eliminating groundhogs. Can only use jacketed bullets in them as lead bullets will quickly foul the gas operating system.

I always wanted one of the Chiapas 12” barrel take down, there is one on the EE I think or is it on ####### anyway, they are a bit above my budget and I read some rather horror stories about Chiapas being hit and miss with quality.

I have a Henry all weather which is really nice to shoot plus a Marlin 336-44 which I have never shot. It is an old ranchers gun original wood and metal have a nice patina to them no cracks or repairs but looks like it was carried everywhere.

I ended up picking up the same Stealth Hunter as you did and I couldn't agree more. What a fantastic rifle. I've owned multiple Marlin's and Winchester lever guns previously but this one is quite nice overall.
I would like to add the lower tension loading gate but I'm going to see if it breaks in a bit more first and I'd also maybe like to add a brake but I honestly find it to be a very soft shooter as is.

Which brake did you go with? I was looking at the Spearhead one for the 1854.

I've currently got an Acro on a QD mount, a Railscales Karve handstop and a leather sling on mine so far. Put a box of JHP ammo through it this weekend and it shoots great! Really happy with the Stealth Hunter in 44 mag.

No kidding eh. These are great little lever guns for the money.

The lower tension gate is a nice touch. I've got big thumbs so it helps. I was doing all of the other mods like the trigger and the safety delete anyway, so it made sense to do that while the whole rifle was gutted. Also, removed the shipping oil when I was in there and put the same grease I use on my pistol slides on the wear parts.

The brake came from Spearhead Machine. Canadian company in Barrie Ontario. Really happy with it. The barrel dimensions are different from the Stealth Hunter to the regular 1854 44Mag. The Stealth Hunter is slightly thicker and these guys have one specifically for it.
