Today an experiment ( they’re all experiments)
I’m loading 44 magnums to use with my chiappa ‘92.
The projectile is the Sierra 300 grain #8630.
The primer is a Ginex LP (notmagnum)
And the powder is imr4227.
My overall length that will cycle in the lever gun will be 1.63”. This is about 100thou past (shorter than) the cannlure. I can fit 16.0 grains of imr4227 behind it before it begins to compress. The 4227 likes to be compressed I think with some (lighter bullet) loads compressed 20-25% which is a lot. I am loading a ladder run from 16 to 20 grain With a strong crimp.

Low expectations of this one and will post results when available.

Edit: problem #1: the seating die squished the soft points in compressing 19 and 20 grains. Yes I should get a seating plug that fits better. So I seated them all using my 35 cal comparator to 1.465 Base-To-Comparator instead of measuring OAL. Also this gives me pause about putting them nose-to-primer in the tube mag but I think it’ll be fine.

ps I'm looking for pressure, not accuracy at this phase

I finally got out to the range to test these out.
I was surprised to not really reach any major pressure signs. The 20’s did for sure have the primers cratering and I would not go higher.
They all cycled in the 92.

16grains nearest and 20grains farthest in the photo. The primers look like that because they flow into the ejector on the 1892. That’s fairly normal. The mixed headstamp brass has already been used ten times before and this is its final encore. 13 inch barrel btw.
