44 Russ reloading in 44 mag dies?

I'm sure this question has been asked a dozen times in previous posts, but... what is the difference between 44 mag/44 spl dies and 44 mag/44 spl/44 Russ dies?
I've seen both varieties for sale online. I've a set of Lee carbide dies in a 44 mag but they make no mention of 44 spl or 44 Russ.
Do I require another set of dies for 44 Russ?

The 44 mag and 44 special are usual in all makes of dies.
There is a steel ring supplied with the dies, which is the same thickness as the difference in length between the 44 mag and 44 special cases. To load special cases you just use the die, but with mag cases you put the ring around the die, to lengthen the die to fit the mag case.
44 Russian is the same diameter, but considerable shorter than a 44 special.
44 Russian is a very unpopular calibre and I never heard of dies being made so short as to accomadate it, with extensions for the 44 mag.

The sizing die is absolutely identical. Seating and crimp dies for .44 Special/Magnum may not turn down enough for the short Russian case.

My Hornady 44 mag/special bullet seater/crimper die works fine for the Russian.
But I had to shorten the case expander die to reach Russian case mouth.

LOL I'm sure he meant "very uncommon" because, as you say, it is very popular in antiques and was very well liked in it's day.

Now someone correct me if I am wrong...but if you want to go shorter than the 44 Russian, there is the 44 Colt...

The .44 S&W Russian is still quite popular in some circles.

.44 special or .44 mag sizer/decapping die will work on .44 russian cases. LEE and RCBS .44 SPL expander dies didn't work for me on 44 russian brass with my press. It is not just the dies - it also depends on the adjustment range available with your reloading press.

I have a LEE .44 russian reloading die set that I use for loading .44 Russian and .44 SPL. It's a good die set - I've been using it for about 5 years now, just loaded a few hundred .44 spl and .44 russian with it a week ago. All LEE die sets c/w shell holder.

Mystic Precision can get .44 russian reloading dies, or there are new Lee .44 russian dies on ebay for about $50-$55 including priority shipping. Search "44 russian dies" on ebay.ca
