44 S&W SPecial fired in a 44 Rem Mag??

Can a 44 S&W Special cartridge be fired in a revolver chambered in 44 Remington Magnum??? is it like shooting 38 Special in a 357 Mag?

Same difference. I have some good old Keith loads listed in the Lyman 1st edition Handbook of Cast Bullets if you're interested.

Todd, just remember that if you fire a whole bunch of 44special (especially lead) out of the revolver that you should clean the powder and lead residue out of the cylinder chambers before you go shooting full house magnum loads. In extreme cases the residue can increase pressures to extreme levels and bulge the cylinder....or worse.

sure enjoy. if you get a lot of lead in the cylinders clean them up- sometimes it makes the 44 mag cases hard to extract

Unless you are handloading the 44 special ammo is about as pricey as 44 mag (and often harder to find). If you are handloading just make up target loads in the mag cases--use different brand of cases or different bullet shape to help with identification of the load.

I put the specials out of my 629 with 2.5 barrel...they are a little easier on the wrist.
