Hello everyone,

Bit of a long shot here, but does anyone have a source or makes their own 44 webley brass and lead?

I’ve checked a couple of places that had it “advertised”, but are no longer selling it.

Cheers!

Some guns chambered for 44Webley/442Webley will also chamber 44 Russian, worth seeing if it will fit.

If not, you can make 44Webley by taking 44Magnum cases (new or resized) and trimming them to .69inch length with a handheld pipe cutter.

44Webley uses heeled bullets like a 22LR (bullet same diameter as case) so although .429" 44mag/spl projectiles will fit, they wont be accurate unless your gun is cut with extra deep rifling (found on some guns meant for 44 Russian). Hornady .440 cal muzzleloading round ball works great for 44Webley.

Powder i've used both black or smokeless. Smokeless load is 4-5grains of Hodgdon's LilGun. 3 grains is in danger of squibbing the gun. Black powder use 3f powder, fill the case almost to the brim.

Since the .440 cal muzzleloading bullets are the same size as the case, they wont seat and crimp normally. After priming and powdering, take a 410 shotgun felt wad or 44/45 cap&ball revolver felt wad, and place it overtop the powder and compress with a dowel. Should be enough room left in the case to fit the round ball. Next, melt some beeswax and pour it into the case overtop the wad. Quickly, before it has time to cool, shove the .440 round ball into the case as far as it will go and allow to cool. Scrape off the excess wax with a knife and wipe clean with an oily cleaning patch.

That about covers it, i can go into more detail on certain parts if you like.

Thanks for that friend. Above and beyond the call to lay it out so nicely.
Sometimes the newer fellows don't know the fingers crossed R & D that went into getting a cartridge going.
I appreciate it.
