So I just bought a Uberta Sharps in 45/120 does anyone have a load with modern powders, will be using cast bullets around the 400 grain weight

Sure. 115 grains 1f Goex with a 520 grain bullet. Make sure you tighten your belt, and dig in your heels. Keep your mouth closed too. Good luck.

Probably have trouble finding a load with modern powder for that particular cartridge length. But, I'm sure somebody out there will find one.

Honestly, using a 400 gr bullet in that is kind of underutilizing it. After 1879 the U.S. Army went to a 500 gr bullet in the infantry .45-70. Elmer Keith said it was an S.O.B. out of a Trapdoor carbine.

As ryan said, it'll be a shock to your system to fire.

The reason I’m using the 400 grain bullet is because I’ve got a ton of cast powder coated bullets. I will try some 500 grain jacketed bullets that I have. As far as recoil I’m not worried I have a 505 Gibbs that I shoot.

The " Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook ", 4th edition has loads for the .45-120.

Also the "Lyman Reloading Handbook ", 46th edition and earlier you will find reloading information for the .45-120.

Depends on your velocity goal
Big and slow, powder that fills the case maybe 5744 ........or Trailboss
I use 5744 myself. You do not need to fill the case by any means. 5744 is not position sensitive, no case fillers are required.
Normal reloading caution is required but it works very well for me.
