Some of you fine folks will remember my thread from a couple of years back on the conversion. Its the one where you take the .45 slide off and replace it with the FL 308 single shot dominator conversion and it looks like this..

I fired 7 shots out of it today ,3 hours later my hand and fore arm are still numb and tingling. After the 7, I gave it 10 minutes then tried out a center fire rifle. I was so numb in my right arm that I really had no trigger control at all. I shut it down and came home. This thing is brutal, muzzle rise was about 70-80 degrees and when I fired it torqued so hard that off the bench when it came up and to the left my skull would roll across my right arm!

There was some shooters 30 feet to my left and on the first shot I looked over and they were all staring at me buggy eyed. The fella came up to me and asked what on earth I was shooting as it scared the crap out of them!! Gotta love it...but from now on it gets shot at the end of the shooting session and not part ways thru it!

I'll give ya $50 for it ya big baby!!!

Or, alternatively, send a horse chick your way...

Your choice... HA HA HA

Cheers
Jay

Sooner then the alternative of another horse chick I would rather have the horse!!! Ever fire one of these?? By the way...I just put together a contender handgun chambered in 45-70 with a 12 inch barrel...Havent shot it yet as I am still getting some loads done for it...but its gotta be worth at least a elk or a baby tyrannosauraus rex!!

Its worse then that. With a shotgun you have the size and weight to it. I am gonna grab a scale and weigh it then figure out the recoil factor on it. I wont be able to figure out recoil velocity me thinks....this could get interesting!!

Number crunching done...

Velocity of recoiling firearm in (fps) 29.83

Free recoil energy in ( ft/LBS)...34.54

Its basically the equivalent of a 338 win mag firing a 225 grain slug at 2780 FPS...

Apparently you need to take a video of this and post it on youtube as there are currently NO videos of this setup being fired anywhere on the net that I can find. what a wild idea.

Type in pachmayr dominator conversion. There was no one there to do video for me .It was a commercial conversion for the sillouhette crowd back in the mid 80"s. They came out in .223,7 br and 308 win. Maybe more were added...I lucked out when I bought this one a few years back. They actually proofed these at 100,000 cup of pressure at the time and the lock up is like a artillery lug cannon would. The folks shooting next to me never asked if they could fire it...although I would have offered them to shoot it...

I shot something similar years ago that was chambered in 7-30 Waters. It was a break action single shot built on a 1911 frame. Pretty neat gun. I can imagine that the recoil in .308 is pretty impressive.

I just worked out the energies for the 45-70 contender...

Velocity in recoil in FPS is 38.53

Free recoil energy in ft/lbs is 57.62

The recoil of a 416 rem mag with a 400 grainer at 2400 fps works to this...in a 10 pound rifle..

18.5 fps for a velocity recoil...

52.9 ft/lbs of free recoil...

Notice the recoil in FPS has doubled for the 45-70 handgun while the recoil energy is above a 416 rem mag...

That one is really gonna get my attention....and vids will be made of it also!!

All this on a norc frame ?
Dude you are ballzey.

The frame will handle it just fine ( or so I hope) I was pretty nervous touching off the first round. I can see having to tighten up the whole thing after a few shots though. At the last shot I had a crap of a time trying to lift the lever to get the case out. It was like I had no power left in my hand at all. I to am thinking a past glove might be needed for the next session. But ya really want to be able to feel the trigger so it doesn't fire when you don't expect it.
