I realize that I am driving you guys all crazy. Can I have a list of everything that I would need to reload blackpowder loads for the 45/70 includiing where I could purchase brass, powder, equipment, bullets, books etc? Is there a list somewhere and could I order it from from one place? :weird::cool:

buffalo arms is a start, you can buy 2f goex blackpowder from most gun shops and If you want an Original Remington Hepburn #3 sporting I have one for sale

Yep...Buffalo Arms is the place to start. They have pretty much EVERYTHING in the way of BPCR equipment/books etc. They are very fast and reasonable.
If you call them, you may get to talk to Dave Gullo. Ask him anything you want to know. MT Chambers for cast bullets, and there is an outfit Senlac, Sask., but I can't recall the name. They sell Ben's bullets as well as powder and other BP related stuff. They will be busy w/seeding and gun shows right now. If I can find the name and #, I will post it.
If you have reloading press, etc., get dies etc. If not, and you don't plan on reloading for anything else, I would go with the Lee Handloader Kit. Cheap and easy, easy to learn, and a good place to learn reloading. Quite a few BPCRS shooters are starting to use Wilson/Sinclar Hand Die Reloading Kits. (sinclairintl.com) I am actually considering one of these. I think you can control your powder compression, seating depth, and neck tension better with this setup. With this kit you use an arbor press instead of a hammer, as in the Lee Kit.
And you are NOT driving us crazy.....it feels good to be able to help new people to our sport. NEVER be scared to ask-if we don't know-we will find out, or point you in the right direction.

Good Luck,
LeRoy

DROP TUBE
SCALE(elec. or balance)
Powder Measure(BP)
Vernier Caliper(for measuring OAL and calculating powder amount)
This is all you need for reloading(equip.) to reload 45/70, with "0" case neck tension, something to try before investing in dies and a press. Hillfolk in Senlac SK. for black Powder esp. "SWISS"(the best), M.T. Chambers for .45 Cal. bullets, Buffalo Arms for anything else, and by all means ask away as some of us have already been through the learning process.

Thanks guys

Thanks guys. I put an order in with Buffalo arms. Can anyone tell me where I can order primer and powder? What sort of primer should I use?

Thanks ben

Ditto for the drop tube. Go to a plumbing supply house and ask for rigid 3/8 copper tube in 24 and 36 inch lengths...you could even get a 48 if you like to experiment. Have them put a flare on each end and you are ready for action...you may need a funnel on the top end though.
For wad get the Ox-Yoke 45 cal Wonder Wad...they are dry lubricated and the perfect size...saves you having to punch them out.
You gonna have fun shootin' these puppies.
Cheers

mackillan primers are kind of tricky by a box of say acouple of different ones and see what works best for your style of loading.
Changing primers on a fine load can turn it into a dog or a winner in the blink of an eye.
Good Luck Ken.

You need a loading manual for BP cartridges if you plan on using BP. Lyman puts one out. Where you bought the rifles should have everything you need.

There are active BP clubs in several Sask cities. Cartridge shooters in Saskatoon, Regina, Prince Albert etc.

A large BPCR Silhouette Match is scheduled for July 12 & 13 near Bethune Sask, north west of Regina on Number 11 Highway.

Thanks Murf. I will hookup with the Stoon chapter. Maybe there are some sharpes guys there.

I am sure there are several Sharp's shooters there. At most matches the Sharps outnumber all others. Occassionally you will see some Pedersolis, Brownings and original Winchesters.
Years ago there were many other brands and action styles used but the Sharps and the like have pretty well taken over.
I miss the old days when one would have a Springfield on one side with a Ballard, Maynard, Martini, Snider or Peabody down the line.

PM sent re Bethune Shoot.

This shoot is known as the Pingert memorial , named after Don Pingert a fantstic guy who sadly passed away years ago. Leo Bumphrey, his shooting and hunting buddy has been putting on the shoot for several years. The range at Bethune has 2 banks for each silhouette. Campimg is available with outhouses , no running water, etc etc .

This years Pingert memorial is set for July 12 and 13, with a few events such as a hunter class and scope match starting on Friday, the 11.

In the past several shooters from Sask, Manitoba and the northern states have made appearances.

As I prefer not to post another's phone number or email on an open forum please PM me for contact info.
