45-70 loads
I have been using an 1873/79 variant trapdoor rifle in cowboy action long range. Have also used an 1886 Winchester, 45-70 rifle. The two guns are very accurate and consistant. The load that I found works well with good accuracy out to 300 yards is as follows.
Trapdoor load;
-Lyman 457193 cast wheel weight alloy, coming out at 420 grains, sized to 0.459".
-SR4759, 21.5 grains, with a 3/4" square dacron filler, followed with a Ox-Yoke, 45 cal wonder-wad under the bullet...standard large rifle primer.
Winchester 1886 load;
-Lyman 457193 cast wheel weight alloy, coming out at 420 grains, sized to 0.459".
-IMR 3031, 38.5 grains, 1/16 thick hard felt wad, standard large rifle primer.
Hope this helps
Cheers
