45-70 Alexander Henry

I have a antique 45-70 with this 7 groove Alexander Henry rifling. At times I use Trail Boss and 405 cast PB from Bullet Barn as handloads.
However getting the rifling totally clean seems to be Mission Impossible. I use Wipeout (Blackpowder) and followed up by G96 with cotton patches.

Does anyone have advice?

Take a bore brush and wrap your cleaning patch with solution around the brush. This will get your patches further in the grooves. Some M Pro 7 will also help clean the carbon out. After you may also wish to use some Lead remover from Sharp Shoot R and let it soak for a number of hours then take a patch thru the bore and see what you have on the patch.

Best cleaner I have found for black powder is Ballistol.

Does this lower your post firing cleaning efforts?

If yes, what name brand do you recommend?
