What most accurately reflects your oppinion. (see poll)
It seems that every time someone mentions their 450 Marlin they are immediately called on it cause 4570 can be handloaded as good, maybe better.
Why are 450 owners ridiculed for their choice so often

Not all people who have the need for a 450 are handloaders. Some are just campers, some work in the bush etc. and the 450 is a far better choice in my oppinion for those guys.
To hell with the foolishness of the price of ammo, what`s a couple of boxes of ammo to take that occasional bear or moose, or for safety in the bush. Yes handloading may be cheaper and make the 45 70 as good a gun, but for many people the 450 marlin is a better choice for their application.

You can bake bread cheaper than you can buy it, you can even make it better than the bought stuff sometimes,
but baaking homemade bread is not an option for evryone, though it does taste good.

I've got the 450, I chose it over the 45/70 simply because the winchester model 94 timber that I found was in that caliber.
I don't handload so for me it was a good choice but Hornady makes some 45/70 rounds that are right up there with the 450.
I paid around $40 per box iirc and that's about what I pay for my 338 win/mag so they aren't to bad

I bought a .45-70, and would buy one again just because it is slightly easier to find ammo in an obscure hunting store (ie, you're up country hunting and need ammo in a pinch). From everything I've heard you can load a .450 a little heavier but you can get pretty damn close with a .45-70, probably close enough to hardly notice the actual difference.

I agree with the ballistics not being too great and yes they are very close in relation to a 12 ga slug I find, but I agree with .45-70 ammo always being around. For me its a moot point since I don't reload, I just rely on good ol' Hornady LeverEvolution ammo and have been very happy with it so far. LR

I voted for the 450 just cause I have one and it only has one lonely vote. I know nothing about 45\70's but just from what I've read the 450 outperforms the 45\70, that's why it was made, but I'm pretty sure if you load your own they can be made pretty much equal, but I read the old 45\70 guns maybe can't handle the same pressures a 450 can. ?? When I get my 450's reloaded they will be loaded down because the leverevolution I have kick too hard, I don't like it.
