45-70 Availability??

You need to get into re-loading! The 45-70 is a wonderful cartridge with the ability to go from "Bowling Gophers: to knocking down Elk and Moose!

What exact ammo where you looking for? I have no problem buying the the Remington green box. Bass Pro in Vaughan, No car.... subway up to VMC subway station and there is a 10 min bus ride from there.
There's also Sail, Gagnon, Al Flaherty's just to name a few. Not sure of any Canadian Tire in Toronto sell ammo but outside of Toronto will. I know Canadian Tire Belleview sells 45-70 ammo.
I reload hard cast now. slightly cheaper but catered to my rifle for sub MOA at 50 yards.

I see 45-70 ammo anywhere they stock a reasonable amount of ammo varieties. I never buy any of it because I reload all of my own.
Ammo is readily available, but 45/70 is best when reloaded for, the options are endless, I have seven of them ranging from trapdoor Springfield to Ruger #1, ImR 4198 has proven to be my go to powder, you can load it from pop gun to killer of anything that walks on the planet.

It's not necessary to reload,but,if you're so inclined and want to invest a ton pf time and money into it,it can be very enjoyable. The best ammo for Marlin I've found is Hornady LeveRevolution ballistic tip found at Canadian Tire.

I think if there's one cartridge that deserves to be reloaded, it's the 45-70. Mild to wild and anything in between. Are you set up for reloading in other calibers?
I watched my co worker reload some rounds after work with a kit he got for 70 bucks. Seemed quick and cheap to me.
Cost of reload is less than 1/2. A 405 cast over 46 gr of 3031 is good in my Marlin. Reloading gives you more accuracy as well as less $$ spent. The H ammo is less desirable to reload. Most sport shop will get in the factory ammo you want.

The lever revolution can be a bit finicky to load as the cases have to be trimmed on a lathe to 2.040 as were most other bullets work fine in your average 2.095 to 2.100 case length. Something to keep in mind with the Marlin 1895!

Short Hornady 1F Brass is easy enough to buy.

Reloading can be pretty cheap to set up for or very expensive, your choice!
45-70 ammo or brass is easy to find. About 400 brass, black powder or Unique , primers and a few bullet moulds gives me just about any load I want. Ah the feeling of shooting an original trapdoor with black powder.
Unless your don't want to shoot much reloading is the way to go. 45/70 ammo in my parts is somewhat available but it seems to be $60+ for box of 20. I just volleyed 30 rounds in 45/70 with my own uber accurate cast powder coated bullets, my cost on those 30 rounds was $9 or $6 bucks per 20. Even if your buy commercial bullets its worth the effort, figure around $25 per 20 rounds.
