I tried the 420 gc cast bullets a little faster in the new Marlin 1895 45-70.
The old load I was shooting was 40 grains H4198 under the 420 cast, I bumped up the load to 41.5 grains. I fired two fast shots into a two inch black square at 125 yards off the hood of the truck.
The H4198 and IMR 4198 burn very clean and all I needed to clean the barrel was run a dry patch down the tube,I inspected the bore before and after shooting and there was zero leading. The Ballard rifling may help control leading to some degree over the Micro-Groove rifling.
