.45-70 Enfield conversion???

I've never seen them available but they are kind of a neat for a Bubba. I actually prefer the look of the Frontier, it uses a sporterized military stock instead of the Parker Hale sporter stock.

I don't think that Gibbs is in business anymore, you could have someone try and import a used one for you, but by the time you found one, did up the paperwork, paid for someone to import, etc... it probably wouldn't be worth it.

I always wanted a Gibbs Quest Extreme but I doubt that any ever made it up here.

"...use questar..." They can't get firearms that are no longer made either

Before you belittle good advice maybe you should read questars list of services, then you wont look so bad

Questar can surely help to register/import a firearm purchase from a US dealer or auction site. The costs disscussed on CGN to build a 45-70 SMLE runs to the 700 dollar mark so if you can get a Gibbs used in very good condition for less then 400 (which you can easily) you will have money left over to pay questar for thier services.

The other nice option is a century arms siamese mauser 45-70 conversion.

I'm having an Enfield conversion built for me right now by a US gunsmith. No 4 action and a 22" barrel that he actually fit into a full wood stock.

Does anyone have any more info and pictures on some of these conversions that have been done in Canada?

FWIW some gun shops in Canada will import firearms for individuals and not charge you an arm and a leg for the privilege. They simply let enough guns and parts accumulate stateside to make it cheaper and more feasible, takes a lot longer though.

I checked into importing a Gibbs conversion and it would cost me 800+$ by the time it was over done with 4-6 months down the line.

A fellow in bc is sending me some pics of his conversion he got done by John at Jr's custom gunsmithing in Toms Lake BC. If he is ok with it I will post them. It sounds like I will either get one built or buy the one that is for sale.

John is currently building 45-70's and 45-90's because the its the only magazines he can get and the supply of these is sporadic.

Well...it took a while but I have my 45-70 Enfield Now. 22" Stainless Pipe and balances really well. I kept the original rear site to work with a front ramp site...not unlike the original config. I will be carrying it for Fall black bear season as I prefer open sights for that kind of work. I dont' reload for 45-70 yet but I may become inclined to do so very soon.

Pics up soon.

Man talk about rising from the dead, I don't even remember making this thread. Thanks guys for all the info. Since the thread was born I had the oppurtunity to shoot a couple .45-70 conversions and decided that a Marlin or Ruger would be more my thing.
