Anybody remember these half-jackets? I havent been able to find them anymore so I guess they are no longer available. If anybody has a source for them, please PM me with the details.

I remember the Speer half-jacketed .44 cal bullets. but they came with a "caution" not to drive them too slowly (at the risk of separating the half-jacket in the bore). Hornady made a similar .30 cal 110 grain "Plinker".

Still got a box of the .44 cal 240 gr. bullets if I'm not mistaken...

... What grain are they and what do they mic.

They mic .458" and are 300grs. I am not sure about speer, but these were Hornady. Not sure of when the quit making them, my father used love these things for bear and deer so he had lots around. Now I am starting out with my 45-70 and was hoping to find some....for old times sake.

At one time Speer had a product that was somewhat similar but the top of the jacket was actually roll crimped to the lead.

Hornady did however have a line of bullets that looked exactly what you have pictured and I have one of their old bullet charts that's part of the decor in my reloading room.
For rifle, there were two bullets;
  1. 30 cal..........100gr
  2. 45 cal..........300gr
For handgun, there were four;
  1. 38 cal..........158gr
  2. 44 cal..........240gr
  3. 45 ACP.........185gr
  4. 45 LC...........250gr
Checking the latest Speer and Hornady reloading manuals I see they are no longer listed so I assume they are long since discontinued. The Hornady bullets look like swaged products guys were making, quite a while back.
