45/70 Hornady 325 Grain Levereveloutuon Data

Hi All.

Would some kind sole share reloading data from the Hornady manual for the 325g FTX round.

I finally got my hands on a box of FTX tips and have the spent Hornady LE cases just need to know powder and loads (min/Max).

Also is there a requirement for Hornady dies as apposed to my RCBS ones for these tips.

Thanks in advance.

RH, North Saanich BC.

If you PM me I can let you have an email address if that's easier.

Any .45/70 dies are fine...

The 325 ftx factory Leverevolution round shot very close to 1 moa from my Marlin so I emailed Hornady and asked them, the reply I got was a copy of the load data available in my Hornady #9 book.
Just remember that these bullets require you to trim the brass shorter than standard 45-70 loads so you won't be able to use the brass for any other reloads after this and do not buy Leverevolution powder for the 45-70, there is no data available for it as it is not a suitable powder for this carteidge.
I don't have my log books handy or I'd post which powder I had the best luck with.

Thanks all for the info......I do have once fired LE Brass here i want to re-use so no need to trim the cases. I did call Hornady re the LE powder and they said not to use it. 4895 was an option they said.

I'll study all this above again and maybe choose a different powder.

Thanks all again.

RH.

For shorter bbls, the 4198s work good to get close or even hit book velocity in .45-70. Mid burners tend to thump hard but produce so-so velocity. FWIW LE chrono'd at around 1800 fps in my guide gun. A max charge of IMR4198 evicted a Hornady 350 interlock @ over 2000 and H4198 hit over 2100 fps. I'd try the 4198s.
