45/70 IMR 3031+300g Barnes TSX No load data?

The Hodgdon 2019 reloading manual shows zero 3031 loads with the Barnes 300 TTSX bullet, for modern 45/70 rifles.
However there are some loads for the Trapdoor rifle group but you would have to extrapolate them to fit your desire.
In the 300 cast bullet category it shows 51.7 grains for 1839 fps, up to 55.0 grain up to 1995 fps.
It also shows a 300 grain SIE HP utilising 56.0 grains for 1884 fps, up to 59.5 for 2021 fps.

There is a specific listing for your bullet using IMHO the best powder for 45/70, H4198…

My Lyman 46th edition has IMR3031 loads with a 300gr Hornady jacketed bullet, for use in Marlin lever guns:

start: 43gr, 1557fps
max: 50gr, 1831fps
24 in. barrel

You could email Barnes directly for data specific to the TSX bullets. They used to be good at answering load questions.

Thanks everyone..I considered picking up some 4198 but everyone seems to be out! I guess i was wondering if 3031 was a dangerous powder for a ''reduced" load with this monolith type bullet. Example: Starting the tsx at 48-50g 3031 and working up? Would there be a danger of ignition? Sorry I can't for the life of me remember the right word for that?!
May have to pick up some vv n130.

Already have some sierra 300 hp loaded up...Thanks! Was looking at the Jet website there last night "wink"

IMR Website shots 58gr of 3031 as a starting load up to 64gr as a maximum for speeds of 1971 to 2196. These are Class 2 or "Lever Action" loads. They also show 51.7gr at 1,839 up to 55.0gr at 1,995 as Trapdoor loads. Granted these are with a Sierra bullet and not the Barnes. they list load data with the Barnes but only "Modern Rifle" loads, probably because the Barnes needs some speed to expand, though 45 caliber bullets don't really need to expand to do their job. I wouldn't hesitate to use this data with a Barnes bullet.
