Does anyone have any experience with IMR4895 in 45/70?
First time reloading for this cartridge and had some IMR 4895 handy. I picked up some 405 gr RSFP plated Campro bullets.
The Hodgdon reloading info has a 400gr JFP starting at 54 grains and max at 58 grains. 54 grains is pretty close to a compressed load as far as I can tell, so I was a bit worried. I checked my old Lee manual and it says start at 47.6 gr and max at 52.5. Quoted pressures make sense with Lee at 26900 CUP and Hodgdon at just over 30,000.
I'm shooting a Marlin 1895G and using Federal cases.
Any insight?
I also have some Hornady 325Gr FTX to load up.
