Hi Everyone, Most of the info for this cartridge bullet combo is refers to lever rifles. Has anyone had success in loading for a ruger No. 1 or better yet a bolt gun? Reading earlier posts Hornady is quoted that the bullets max velocity is 2400-2500 fps.
Is it to much to ask for a 2200-2300fps load out of a No.1?
If anyone wants to post some data of where to start I would like that very much like it thanks.

H4198 will get you to around 2200fps. With a 325 grain bullet.
As long as you are careful working your loads Up. Recoil gets a bit stiff though.

The Hodgdon manual will give you the charge weights you need.

I'm using 49.5 of Reloader #7 in a Sabatti double rifle with shortened cases.I worked both up and down from this load to try and get better regulation but this worked the best.I found the reloading data on line for the 325 ftx bullet.Have any of you guy's had these bullets come apart on you I shot two little deer with them last year and had the bullets come apart.I don't know how fast my bullets are going but I wonder if high speed is the way to go.I guess I should add this load works in my gun you should of course work up to it in your gun

I shot a 5 pt whitetail at 60 yards last fall- he was looking almost straight at me - i shot him into the throat -neck - the bullet went into the spline and stopped there ! It weighted 225 grs after we found it - perfect mushroom but was 100 grs light ! The jackets are very thin on these bullets good only for lung shots on smaller animals in my opinion ! They come out of my Marly 95g 18.5" at 1818 fps avg for 5 shots ! That deer dropped in his tracks so no complain there ! :)

Cheers Jim
