Can someone tell me a load using a 375gr lead bullet in a Ruger #1, as I cant find any in my books, in the Lyman book it has a start load For IMR 3031 50gr. for a 366gr lead bullet, should I go below that, or above as a start load?
Or how does that work out?
 
I haven't checked yet but there may be something to help you on the Beartooth Bullets web site. I haven't used that particular bullet weight but I see a load listed for Ruger #1 & #2 in the 3rd Edition Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook for a bullet close to that weight, 366gr. It is bullet;

60gr IMR 3031 for 2117 f/sec
This is probably all the same info you have. The bullet in question is a plain base & I personally haven't had anything but bad luck with plain base bullets of that calibre & at those velocities. Does your bullet have a gas check? If so, it may work out ok. Accuracy wise, sizing the bullet 0.001" or 0.002" greater than the bore diameter seems to help. A lot also depends on how hard the bullet is.
 
At those velocities you will want to have a gas check to prevent leading. Personally I use XMP 5744 exclusively for 45/70. I havent tried 3031 but I heard its good as is H4198.
