I'm thinking of getting one of these. Anyone seen them in stock anywhere, or know a good Marlin retailer?
Anybody got one, and can tell me how they like it?(or sell it for stupid cheap!)

They are incredible and in my opinion the best 1895 45-70 that money can buy.

Now for the bad news. They are not being made right now and you won't be able to order a new one. I know they are listed on the Marlin website, but there is a bunch of models that are still on there from when Marlin was taken over by Remington and they never updated the website. Marlin is slowly starting to bring back the models they stopped production on, starting with the XLR models. But I would bet the 1895CB to be the last to come back if at all.

So, if you want one, your best bet is to watch the EE like a HAWK! That's how I found one and I will never part with it. Since they stopped making them they have become very collectible and even if you watch the US auction and used sites like gunsinternational, they sell fast. Going price for one now is between $900-$1100 if it's in excellent shape.

As for the gun itself, it is a dream for a lever gun. The rifle balances so well that it feels lighter than my 1895GS while it weighs a pound heavier. My rifle is very accurate with 450gr hardcast lead with RX7 at approx 1600fps. Stuff 9 of those in the mag tube and you can walk comfortably through big bear country. 400gr Speer's are also very accurate, but I have pretty much converted to strictly lead in the 45-70's and save my jacketed .458's for a new 458 win mag I just picked up.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,
But now I'm depressed! I had thought of selling my flintlock and my .38-55, but I don't want to sell them and then find that I can't get
a Marlin. The standard barrel Marlin is'nt nearly as cool as the CB. I'm getting more hooked on iron sights and cast bullets as well.
I might have to hold off for now. Thanks for the insight.

Supposedly the new production 1895CB's are planned for the very near future.

I corresponded with a dealer who was taking orders but couldn't guarantee a delivery date.

Of course that could mean anything, but I was led to believe it would be this year.

Haha, nice sales pitch!!!

I was only thinking about it and I got 3 PMs. Wish I'd bought a case of the things rather than just one as an experiment to see if I could sneak a rifle in past my then girlfriend. Experiment was a rousing success.

So I married her.

Now that I think about it, my price should have a premium attached to it...the rifle has proven spousal-stealth technology! That's gotta be worth a few hundred extra, non?
