So next tues I'll be buying anouther mould for a 45-70. I have a Saeco in 405 grain coming but want a different size any sugestions on Lee or Lyman that wholesale carries? Mostly target and hunting with Black Powder loads.

Lyman 457193...flat nose 405 gr. Cast with wheel weights it will weigh about 415 to 42o grains.
Have been using this bullet for the better part of 35 years and has been a consistent performer in virtually any 45-70 rifle.

Thanks Alonzo. I have a Saeco 405gr on route. I wanted to get some other weights for shooting. Any others you use?

Buffalo Arms in the USA has a good selection of 45 cal moulds and with the dollar close to par the prices are good, I have a .458" 350 Grn. FNGC Saeco 2-Cav. Bullet Mould on the way from them.

I have a saeco 405gr and wanted to know if Lee or Lyman had any good grain moulds for a 45-70 as I will be going to Wholesale in kamloops tues and wanted to pic one or two up.

I have purchased all the 45 cal lee moulds and for the money they are great to try differant weights, my best groups have been fired with the 500gr gas checked. great purchase for the few dollars they cost

cooter I own all but one of the 45/70 cal lee bullet molds and my favorite 2 are the 500 grain flat point and the 500gr pointed. Get the 2 hole molds it goes faster then.
I launch these out to 500 yards and soon to be 1000 yards. Fairly accurate with open sites. Only thing you have to be paitent and let the bullet cool abit in the mold or it bends the point on the 500gr pointed bullet. 12 grains of 700X at 1200 fps and I'm smiling:)
Never needed gas checks.
It doesn't take long to go through 100 rounds in a hour at the range.
Have fun!

they are great with blackpowder, i used 2ffg goex, 60 grs in a 45/70 with any cast bullet works great for me , i put a card wad between the bullet and powder, lube with spg,, compress the powder about 1/8 inch dont leave any air spaces under the bullet ,, wade

They are all good for black powder, I tried a single cavity spitzer style Lee and the mould didn`t work well (too much heat in the smaller block) when i purchased the same one in a double cavity it works great. For less than 30.00 you can`t beat them. I also purchased the large 535gr RCBS and it is a decent mould (cast iron) they drop at 550 grns with my aloy
