Has anyone tryed to make up shot loads for the 45-70 for shooting Ruffed Grouse. I tryed using .410 shells and it worked in my Ruger #1 but not in my Guide gun and patterns were to thin to shoot much past 10 yards.

The short and rifled barrel on the guide gun pretty much spells doom for dense patterns. You can use .410 factory, or just reproduce .410 loads in a .45-70 case (cap with a thin piece of cardboard and seal with white glue). Either way, you're looking at about 10 yards max for an effective pattern.

Just use reg 410 x 2 1/2" shells.

If they were made with fully sleeved wads it might work alright!?
Anybody know if any 410s were available with those sleeved wads??
