I have been told each calabre likes a certain load. What is the best all around load for a marlin guide gun in 45/70? blb

Don't get too excited about stories of what the gun likes. A tremendously wide range of loads can be loaded for the 45-70. I have the Marlin with the little longer barrel than the guide gun, but otherwise the same.
I have tried about six different powders and loads so light a small child could shoot them, up to loads so heavy they made my head ache to shoot them, and I could still go much higher in power, if desired.
Every load I tried has been OK for accuracy. So what kind of a load do you want? Light? Medium? Heavy? Super heavy?
Tell us more and we can come up with some answers for you.

Just noticed this is your first posting. Congratulations and keep them coming, now that you have started.

Don't have a Guide Gun, but in my Buffalo Classic, lots of loads work real well. My preference for lots of shooting is a home cast (wheel weights) 405 gr water quenched bullet with 25 gr of AA5744. Super accurate and pleasant.

For the hunting variety, I am using a stiff enough charge of Benchmark and a 405 gr Remmy flat point. Shoots good, enough ;) recoil, and good results. I also have used H4895, Varget, RL-7 and IMR3031. Some work better than others IN MY RIFLE. They're all a little different.

thanks for your replys, I am mainly going to pack this gun for mr. bruin, if he likes my camp and grub. I am not a hunter as i don/t like the meat, but like to camp with our horses and mules. I think hunting is great if the meat is used. I really hope the 45/70 is my everything rifle! BLB

I have also tried almost every powder available in my 45-70 loads and have settled on Hodgdon H322, Win brass and Win LR primers.

I use this powder for all my loads with both jacketed and cast bullets.

I use RCBS dies and crimp with a Lee factory crimp die.

I also have a Marlin 1895GS that I shoot all of these bullets in and all the loads mentioned below give excellent accuracy.

300gr jacketed bullets = 54grs H322

400/405gr jacketed or cast bullets = 50grs H322

430gr cast bullets = 48grs H322

525gr cast bullets = 44grs H322

550gr cast bullets = 43grs H322

I hope when I get my memberships to the different shooting clubs here in Kamloops I'll get to sample a whole range of different caliber's...owners of the firearms willing, of course. :)
