Im all out of titegroup and have a few pounds of varget that Im not doing anything with at the moment...

Im not able to find any published load data for varget in 45 acp - but a google search indicates that folks are doing it...

are any of you folks loading your 45 acp rounds with varget ? and if so, how many grains of powder and what size bullet are you using ?

I have 185 gr cast bullets...

Varget is a faster burning rifle powder, suitable for small and medium case rifle rounds. It's pretty useless to you for pistol. It's burning rate would be way too slow to be useful.

I see a serious muzzle flash in your future, if you try... most of that powder is going to come out of the muzzle unburned, and make for a hell of a blast once it spreads and finishes its combustion. I also can't see it generating the "snap" one needs to cycle an autoloader... and then, of course, one wonders about whether the pressure will have dropped enough by the time the barrel disengages from battery...

It'll also probably be dirtier than a 25 cent hooker in a .45 ACP gun with a 5" barrel... I can see it MAYBE being used in a long-barreled gun (like a 45 ACP lever-action with 18" or longer barrel), but even then only if I was DESPERATE.

If you do it though, let us know how it turns out! :p

"...not able to find any published load data for varget in 45 acp..." That's because Varget is rifle powder. Burn rate is far too slow for handgun cartridges. Number 99 on Hodgdon's burn rate chart. Titegroup is Number 14. The higher the number, the slower the burn rate.

Varget's versatile, but not that versatile!

I'd suggest WW 231 or Bullseye for target loads and (with 231) even IPSC major loads in 45 acp. Worked fine for me (but I'm not shooting 45 acp anymore).
