Hi there,

I was loading some 45 the other day and noticed that winchester NT doesn't have a standard large primer pocket, looks like the only 45 brass that would take a small primer........

If i use them should I use a magnum primer or just trash the brass?

Thanks

Matt

.45 small primer

I use std small primers with no problems. I have both lg and sm brass and havent noticed any differences nor had any issues

it's usually a relatively simple operation to convert the press to small pistol- in either case, you don't need a MAGNUM primer- the only time you need MAGNUM primers is with slow burning powders and MAGNUM cases- ie the 357 HEAVY loads, the 44 mag , AND THE 454- i switched my 45 setup over the small pistol some time ago, for two reasons- 1 the commanility with 9mm, and 2 the availability of brass
if you check the winchester website, you will see that there are a number of questions about nt brass answered- most importantly , the size of the primer pocket, flash hole and the "hotness" of the primer
