Hello all! I have scoured the web for an answer to no avail.

I have Accurate Nitro 100 NF and CamPro 200 gr truncated cone bullets. The load data for the powder is as follows;

Weight:200 (P) "plated"
Manufacturer: BERRY
Type: FP "flat point"
min charge: 3.9
velocity: 813
max charge: 4.5
velocity: 901
max pressure: 20,569
COL: 1.205

My question is, what is the difference between a truncated cone and a flat point? I have looked at the pictures of both bullets and they look similar... just want to make sure that before I load some, there is no glaring difference. I tailor the OAL to my barrel (Ruger SR1911).

Thanks!

The difference is the flat point is typically a round nose with a flat point where as the truncated is a cone with a flat point so the edges are rounded off. Both should feed pretty good once you get the oal setup to your gun. Although either one still may have feeding issues because of the feed ramp and or mags etc.

Did you look at the Berry's Bullet web site? Took me about 20 seconds to zero in on this;

How's it compare to your Campro?

One thing to keep in mind with a flat point is that the edge around the flat point should match to that same diameter on a correctly loaded round nose. So the flat point loads will be a few thou shorter than a round nose. Mind you most guns are able to accept a sizeable variation range in OAL so it shouldn't take much testing to find the OAL that your Ruger likes.

I've not done it yet to try but one option to find the acceptable range is to make up a few dummy rounds that are grossly over length. Then over a series of steps re-seat to shorter OAL's until they chamber easily from a sling shot slide release. And then work them down to under length until they run into issues. Then we'd have a better idea of what the gun likes for OAL with various bullet profiles.

Thanks Spawn and BC-Rider.

BC - The Berry's and CamPro's look identical.

I have been having some FTF with the Campro 200 gr TC's, but after playing with the OAL, they seem to feed reliably. I can't get IMR 700X locally right now, so I had to change powders.

Based on what the two if you have said, I was on the right track with my thinking! Thanks for the advice!

If you have FTF issues, try seating the bullet a little deeper.

The FTF's always occurred when the round hit the feed ramp and jammed up against the chamber and have actually pushed the bullet deeper into the case. I have had some reloader's tell me that my rounds are too short... Conflicting information!
