45 ACP in short supply?

It's not just you. I've had a tough time getting factory .45 in any quantity. And the price is going through the roof too.... I think I paid $22/ box of 50 at Wholesale Sports last time I bought some... :( Last year I believe I was paying around $16/box...

"...where there is demand, there should be supply..." You'd think that. Except that there isn't as much demand for it as you may think. It's not accurate nor cheap enough for target shooting, a lot of ranges don't allow FMJ's and most IPSC/IDPA, etc. shooters reload.
Plus 'surplus' means excess to military requirements. The .45 ACP hasn't been used for general issue, Stateside, since 1985. Few other countries ever used it for general issue. Hence, there is no surplus. There never has been much surplus .45 ammo in Canada.

Is it just me or is it really hard to find any surplus 45 acp fmj?

.45 brass is a luxury item you don't leave in the shooting field !
Brass, in general, has risen in price so the "reloaders" save their empties and scrounge around for any once fired cases of any calibers they own..,

I was in buffalo last night.

10$/50 rounds of .45ACP ('Blazer Brass' AKA CCI) 230gr.
26$/100 rounds of .45ACP (Winchester) 230gr.

These prices are from Wal-Mart...
They had tons in stock...It wasnt even on sale...

So much for all the BS floating around.... canadians are getting pwned. :)

I haven't noticed a shortage of factory stuff, both stores locally have lots. It isn't cheap ($19-21 /50) and no one will give a case quantity discount, but it's certainly available. Dies can be a bit of a bugger to get though, unless you specifically ask. Incidently, I don't think we're getting screwed at that price, $26 US per hundred = $13 US per 50 so $19 CDN isn't out of line, since none of the gunshops I frequent buy the quantity Wal-Mart does, or even buy direct the way Wal-Mart does. In fact I'm thinking Wal-Mart's doing the screwing.
