Hey troops, I've been on a several year hiatus from IPSC. I'm interested in a load for WIN 231 for a .200 gr bullet. I'm looking for just a target round, and not interested in making major. I thought that since this was familiar to me that it would be a good place to start?

the old standard for 231/200 was 5.8 for target, 6.0 for major and 6.2 for bowling pins- i've been at 6.0 for years, but i've got the 20 lb wolff spring

I think the above is an important comment.

In my kinda minimal experience with playing with 45 ACP loads, the recoil spring is a major part of the equation (unlike my 9mm's)

So the best is to have a variety of spring weights. I use how far the shell ejects as what a good weight is. Too heavy a spring and the casing just "dribbles" out; or worse yet it stovepipes.

I have settled on an 18 lb spring for the 200 gr. bullets with 5.5 gr, Win 231.
Good ejection, and when the slide returns to battery it doesn't kick the muzzled down (another indication to me when a spring is too strong)
