.45 ACP powder?

Right now I have Titegroup, Universal Clays and Winchester Super Target. I haven't tried the WST yet but was told it was what the Army uses. Haven't had any issues with Titegroup or Universal Clays. Easy to find loads for each. Universal Clays has bigger flakes and can get messy depending on your setup. I think most agree that Titegroup is great for 9mm and .45. Curious to get going with the WST as a good source told me it was the best.

universal is not messy with my dillon 550b.

231 is a dirty powder and I will not buy it again. :bangHead:

i've used it for years - the trick is to use near maximum loads- there are guys, like john shaw, that swear by the stuff- if he uses it, it's good enuff for me to duplicate his loads- i use it for 9, 45, 44special-
 
W231 is a classic .45 powder. I haven't found it to be too dirty, but I also have not tried more than three or four other powders for the .45. The older Unique was dirty ...
 
I use 231 almost exclusively and always have. It may be dirty but it can't be beat for low power target shooting. Everyone carries it and the price isn't bad.

It may be a little dirtier but I clean my guns once a month so it is not an issue. As an experiment I decided once to run my HK USP .45 without cleaning until it started to jam. It went about 600 rounds before it started to malf. So unless you're one of those high volume shooters like the IPSC guys it probably isn't an issue. Just clean your gun.
 
I was using WST for target loads in my .45 auto, 4.7grs. with a 200gr semi-wadcutter, it did not burn all the powder and left unburnt powder in the barrel and action so I switched to bullseye. WST may burn clean with a bit more powder to up the pressure a little.

I've tried a few rounds with HS-6, it's not bad but I'm hoping to improve the accuracy abit more. The HS-6 works great in my 9mm though.
I'll try some universal clays or bullseye or what ever I can get my hands on.

notice i said NEAR MAX LOADS, not max loads- i shoot cast just like everyone else, and 6.0 grains under a 200 grain bullet- max is 6.3- that's an old bowling pin load,and has been around for ever- it's your MANUALS that have changed to give girlie loads-and i use the bullets out of plains ammo, sask- his are very hard , almost to the point of being jacketed-
 
I don't reload for pistol but I use a lot of powders listed above for Shotgun target loads. Has anyone tried Green Dot? I find in Max loads it recoils less and is very clean burning.
