Just wondering which companies are using small pistol primers for their 45 ACP. A friend gave me a bucket of brass and now I have to sort them between small pistol/large pistol primers. Any difference that anyone has noticed in reliability of ignition? Do I need to switch powders to get the right burn rate and pressures?

I may be missing something, but small pistol primers would not fit in a .45 acp brass.
Is this something shiny and new I haven't heard of?

I think Remington and Federal now have lead free too.
Everything I've run into has had a crimp to remove.

Some .45acp cartridges are now being loaded with small pistol primers. In my view they are a waste of time and I toss the few I see. There is no difference in performance and no adjustments in loading data is required. Just a PITA in my opinion.

Take Care

Yeah, PITA is right. Have to watch I don't get mixed brass now. Thanks for the info.

I've loaded and chroney'd both...
Everything the same.. Powder/bullet/OAL/crimp/ etc.. The only diff being the primer..

I found no difference in performance.

the ones ive had are marked win NT, for non toxic. I swap for the lg primered ones so i dont mix them. Took me a couple before i figured it out, I thought they were crimped real tight at first!

I have a bunch of .45acp brass that used small pistol primers. They are marked ICC for International Cartridge Corporation. They were reloads I bought from Wolf Bullets in Kingston and they worked just fine.

The two small-primered headstamps I've found so far are ICC and Win NT. And if you load normal large primered 45 ACP especially on a progressive press and missed one of the little pr**cks when culling your brass, you get rewarded with a bang! at the primering station:mad: It's almost enough to make you switch to .40
