My previous 9mm terminal ballistics tests garnered so much interest that I had ammo donated for testing. Savage was just dying to know how the venerable .45 ACP would compare to the 9mm tests so he donated three types of JHP ammo.

230gr Federal Hydra Shock penetrated 7.5" and expanded to .735"

230gr Speer Gold Dot penetrated 8.75" and expanded to .685"

200gr CCI Lawman penetrated 6.75" and expanded to .745"

None of the bullets lost any weight in the process

.45 ACP still makes a pretty good sized entry hole.

No .45 ACP was tried against kevlar cause it just hasn't a hope of penetrating.

If you are too lazy to go look at the previous 9mm tests, in general .45 ACP expands a bit bigger (about 0.1") and penetated a bit less (about 1.5") than the comparible 147gr 9mm rounds. Which is better? ..... who knows but I wouldn't want to get hit with either one.
