Cowboy action shooting intrigues me (never done it and I don't know any of the rules/restrictions yet) and I've just ordered a 45 ACP pistol, so would like to consider a 45 revolver with cylinders for both 45 ACP and 45 Long for cowboy action at some point in the future. Is there any difference in accuracy from such a revolver when shooting one ammo or the other? Is there any restriction of having to use one and not the other?

Cowboy action rifles are pistol calibre usually the same as your revolvers. Do some research and find a club nearby to visit. Talk to the cowboy shooters about "choices". Otherwise I think you'll be unhappy.

I'll let those who shoot Cowboy action speak to the sport portion of your post. The Ruger .45LC/.45acp conversion cylinders, I have been told work very well. Both cartridges now sport the same sized lead bullet ie .452 so there should not be any significant accuracy loss. One of our shooters has the /357/9MM conversion cylinder arrangements and he doesn't get the same accuracy out of both cartridges as the 9MM bullets are sized slightly smaller.

Take Care

I don't know if cowboy action rules state that the pistol must me single action only or not, but most cowboy shooters I see have SAO.

However single action only revolvers are prohibited in IPSC revolver division.

So if you want to shoot both you'd need a double or double/single and if cowboy action rules state SAO then you couldn't use 1 gun for both.

If you have no desire to shoot IPSC revolver then disregard my post.
