.45 Auto & .45 ACP are the same round, right?

be careful, there's also the 45 Auto Rim (45AR) out there, which is only for revolvers chambered in 45 ACP, oddly enough. - dan

I was reading that the Autorim was a response to the demand for sidearms in the war, a lot of SW revolvers were purchased, but they needed moomclips to hold the .45acp, the Autorim is the exact same size as the .45acp with moon clip. It seems that autorim is starting to be made in greater quantities again.

Actually, the moonclips were the response to the shortage of sidearms during WW1, so that they could use the duty round (45 ACP) in the revolvers, as they were easier to come by then the 1911 at the time. The Autorim came about after the war, when civilian shooters decided that moonclips (actually half moon clips then, full moonclips came along later as well) were a pain in the ass. With the AR rounds, you just load and eject like any other revolver round. I shoot AR a lot, in various guns. - dan
