45 colt - torn rims?

according to the lyman 48th edition, 45 colt can wind up with torn rims if undue force is used while reloading...

anyone have problems with this?

i want to get into reloading, i have a press and some of the other equipment. i'm looking pretty hard at a 45 colt schofield revolver, and i am wondering if i'm gonna be tearing my hair out over reloading for it...

i would much prefer to "roll my own" over buying factory load for it, i'm sure 45 colt is rather expensive...

I suppose that the thin rim of the .45 Colt case might be more prone to tearing than other cases if the case sticks in the die, but this shouldn't be too big of a problem with carbide dies. Lube every few cases if you find them difficult to pull out of the die.

I do reload .45 Colt since 20 years and I never had problem. If you can reload .44 mag or .357 Mag you can reload .45 Colt as easily.

No, its easy to reload for. I reload for 3 firearms for 45 colt, its a breeze.

It's a fun cartridge to reload!!! Trail Boss powder is quite good in 45Colt.
No problems with torn rims with my RCBS carbide dies.
The 255gr Hornady FP with 5.6 gr Trail Boss (at 750fps) is a nice Cowboy Load (maximum load).
