I'm going to get geared up to reload for 45 colt, I am going to load 250 gr cast bullets and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for a powder to try. Unique is my friends go-to powder for the 45 but it is hard to find so I thought I would see what other people are using.

I've just started to reload for a 92 Rossi. So far have tried Unique and Trail Boss with cast bullets. Better accuracy with unique. Downside is unique is hard to find these days as was mentioned.

250 campro plated, 5.2 g trail boss, 5.5 tight group , I've used CFE pistol before but can't remember the load. It was ok. I also been loading some 230g campro plated, 5.5 trail boss .

Titegroup for me

...except for my Rossi, which hates pistol loads. How heavy do you load for yours? Right now I'm playing with 4227 in an attempt to get it to group worth a darn. If I recall I was loading somewhere around 17-18gr under a cast 250 when I got distracted by trap shooting and left it to sit. It was starting to look reasonably good.

I agree with all the powders mentioned above but I found another one which is terrific. If you can find Ramshot Competition, 5gr under a 250gr bullet is great. Its my preferred load for Cowboy Action. The stuff is hard to find though and load data for it is on the Ramshot site.

About a hundred rounds through my Rossi so far. Was using my 45ACP bullet- Lyman 452374 "flat nosed" in my lubesizer. Sized to 452.
Loads were 7.5 of Unique and 5.2 of Trail Boss. Just received a very nice Lyman 454190 mould in mail today purchased on EE. Got another casting/reloading project for this winter.
