I know, I know, .45 was only meant to be shot out of a 1911. Lets move past that for a minute.

What are my options for a .45 thats not a 1911? Also, lets say I'm on a very small budget. (Obviously I will be looking for used when (if) the time comes).

Just start throwing brands and models out there, give me a good spot to start researching.

Thanks folks,

tough broad question to answer. In addition to my 1911, I got myself Glock 41 and G30S(on the way). Shot G21 before buying the G41. All great. I just love this caliber and believe other good brands work well too, like HK, S&W, Springfield etc. for cheaper new, may even SR45.

There are a bunch of .45 calibres. I like the .45 Colt a lot but I guess your talking a .45ACP pistol. I have a Ruger P90 it is a good gun and not expensive to purchase. The Ruger P series were made for police service around the time the Glock came out and were swept away in the Glock craze. A steel gun, metal gun is a lot easier to shoot than a plastic gun due to the weight.

On a small budget the best choice for .45 Auto is a Norc 1911. Since that is out you will be spending more money. I just ordered one of the police buyback S&W M&P45's from Irunguns and that is likely the next best budget choice, but it is still close to $600 by the time it is in your hands.

Another question - how big are your hands? Many of the non-single stack 1911 pistols in .45 are large framed and don't suit small hands at all.

Yet another question - you are on a tight budget and want to shoot .45 Auto? The cost of the ammo will far outstrip that of the gun in short order (even the overpriced HK guns) so you might want to consider the ammo costs in your calculations.

Glock, CZ, H&K....

HK-45... or USP .45.. ftw.

SIG P220.

If you're going to go to a polymer gun the HK USP is the best of the bunch!

You guys do realize that OP said small budget? Nothing SIG or HK makes fits that description. Plus, I think HK guns are seriously overpriced, but that is just me.

Very small budget? Sounds like you're in the market for a Hi-Point JHP.

$279, new at Epp's.

This is the cheapest choice but not very satisfying overall. That would be up to OP to decide, though.

Shooting the hi point is about as satisfying as..... Creative simile fails.

You can have cheap, or you can have good. If you are ruled by your budget you will not be happy in the long term.

Especially since you won't become proficient with 45 if your ammo budget is similar to the gun one. It becomes a spendy novelty.

You've also not defined your actual budget... Under $500? Under $1000? Shops at Value Village for second hand briefs?

At this point the only 45 that I would consider in the not a 1911 list would be a CZ97. Why? Because I like 1911s and I don't like plastic, pot metal, and alloy. 45 is better in a weighty gun

I will be different, this one in 45 ACP is cool and accurate... And it never jam... JP.
