Got a *new* used rifle in 45. Long colt.
but I noticed all of the shells I fired had pretty large spot where case looked not Burnt but discolored.
Wondering if thats a bad sign not super sure with an issue like this but I know if you gun is making your cases like buldged or tearing them up that's bad.

Here's a pic as an example will add My own soon,
Picture has bad resolution, it's the best I could find online.
so it's easier to see if you save it a zoom out to view As a smaller image

EDIT: also the cartriges were factory loaded, Sellier & Bellot 230 grain, JHP.

Do you mean blackish, like burnt gun powder residue?

I used to get that on my .45LC reloads.
Thought it was normal though .

.45LC is quite a low pressure round. You end up with a lot of soot on the cases because the pressure isn't high enough to obturate them and seal the case to the chamber. Most .45LC brass I've shot and have seen on the range are half to mostly blackened.

Same. It's heavy brass, and there's a lot of blow by. The only thing more dirty were the casings from the blow back type carbines I used to own

Thanks for the replies I have pics and it's factory S&B JHP and also did some digging on other gun sites and it seems alot of others noticed this with factory 45. LC ammo. All of the pics I seen have a identical marking. Discolored about the size of a fingerprint mark that comes half way down the case and only on one side.

It looks like this but maybe less blackened
