Why would someone think 9mm is more powerful than a .45 acp. The only thing 9mm has is velocity and price. Could anyone help me out because i'm kind of confused.

9mm is far less powerful, however easier to make good hits then a .45 in that sense more shots on target maybe make it more powerful & maybe in the USA where you have 19 round magazines as an advantage...I'll take my .45 any day however

What a .45 does over others is that it leaves a larger permanent cavity. Gel tests dont show that though.

Personally, I like the 9mm better as your quick follow up shots will be neater than a .45 that has more recoil power.

Oh geez. There is NO debate.
9mm is an effective round. Less recoil and better ability to place more shots quickly and consistently.
45 ACP hits harder and makes a bigger hole. Doesn't require as many shots, but the recoil increases the chance of missing the follow up shots.

That being said; I love my 45's!!
(and shooting 9mm gets sand in my vageena)

Research the PSI of 9 vs 45 and that's about all you have to do. They are both great calibres and they'll both kill you dead. The way they do it is a bit diffferent but both put a hole in you and you leak until you 're dead. I have both and wouldn't choose between them, I like both. As folks have pointed out paper wilts in front of each of them.

Good website: http://www.ballistics101.com/ (although it is not clear what length barrel they're firing from all the time).

They have most common calibres, though.

There are certainly occasions when a thinner bullet can be far more powerful than a wider bullet, though (7.62mm rifle bullet vs 9mm pistol), but this is not one of those cases.

Actually the paper DOES care. When I shoot .45's the grease rings around the holes reach out further towards touching the line on the next higher scoring.... :D

Dante_mags, I don't know who told you that but they are full of prunes. The ONLY thing a 9 has going for it is higher velocity. But the bigger weight of the .45 more than makes up for that. If you are shooting in events where you need to knock down big steel poppers you'll find that a .45 gets them moving a LOT faster. Or hits that occur low towards the pivot with a 9 may not take down the steel at all where a hit at the same point with a .45 is a done deal.

I`m getting old ...I admit it!!! OK I admit it!!!! It may be the impatient gene. Another 9 vs 45 thread in an over saturated cyberspace.
It`s a good question, and no offence intended, but there are literally dozens of sights on the web that deal with this. This time I`ll throw in my 2 cents.
It`s where you hit that counts. What was that you say... If you hit in the same place....... Ah yes forgive me. The slower larger mass is..... however the speed
of the smaller projectile.... This is why I drink. Again good question , it`s just me.

9mm hitting bone or a vital organ is practically the same as 45 hitting a bone or vital organ.

9mm missing a bone or vital organ is the same as 45 missing bone or vital organ.

Paper can't tell the difference.

Any other cliches?
