Is this rifle usually hard to find ammo for or is it all specially ordered. Been looking online aswell but no luck any suggestions.

drae....you're going to have to back to your gun/info source...as there is no such cartridge....a guess could encompass a couple dozen diff. carts.....I would suggest you familiarize your self with ammo/cartridges/guns before you go any farther as you may be a danger to yourself ie: you may use the wrong ammo and hurt yourself....I (or others on this site) can help you out with this, so don't hesitate to ask questions!!!

Only 45 Winchester I have ever heard of is 45 Winchester Magnum:confused: . Its an autoloader handgun cartridge (stretched 45acp with thicker walls) and pretty much gone the way of the dinosaurs.
Maybe check and see if your rifle is a Winchester chambered for 45Colt?? The caliber is most likely stamped on the side of the barrel.
dB:)

ammo

Could also be 45 Long Colt as a lot of the newer Winchesters are chambered for this. It should be written on the barrel ie. 45LC or 45colt or whatever the caliber/cartridge is. .....rigrat

Senior bulls eye i cheched out 45/70 and that's the right ammo but damn 50 to 60 bucks for 20 rounds man that's rich

"...50 to 60 bucks for 20 rounds..." Eh? Where? Don't buy anything from wherever you saw that price. Wholesale Sports lists Winchester 300 grain JHP's at $34.99 per 20.

45/70 is a fairly common cartridge. I'd guess you can find it in most stores, and don't need to special order.

Either way - factory 45/70 loads are sissy rounds. They are meant for older rifles. If you have a modern Marlin or similar, you can load them to much higher than factory. And if you're shooting a lot of 45/70, the reloading costs will pay for itself in short order!

Drae may have made a typing error, he may have meant 45-75 as I pointed out. In which case that price is not out of line.
