.450 BM Ruger American

I have a Ruger Gunsite Scout in 450 BM. I have not hunted with it, it gets carried a lot, I took the muzzle brake off as well as the scope rail, it has the stock ghost ring sights. I was looking at the Howa or the American before this one came up on the EE. The synthetic model is very light, I have a few different size mags for it and it is comforting to have a couple in my pocket when I am out for a hike with my dogs. I did watch one video where they put it against a 45/70, the 45/70 won but not by a lot.

Looking for a short range brush thumper. The .450 BM in the Ruger American seems to tick off all the boxes, especially in the price department. Anybody with experience using this calibre?

I have often wondered the same thing, I love the short range brush thumper when dogging for deer

I shot a cow with a broken front leg with mine loaded with 355gr WLNGC's it hit the ground so hard I felt the ground shake from 40 yards away.

I'm liking my American Ranch 450 BM fine so far. Good handling ergos and she be a light & quick pointer with a decent trigger to boot. I really like handloading the 450 BM. I load 360 gr WLNGC boolits (Cast Performance) over 5744 held in place with a pinch of dacron fiber at 1400 fps or so. Haven't bonked any critters with 'er yet, but I have full confidence that my load will do the job with shoulder shots on heavy game like moose and bison inside 80 yds.
