  • Barnes 400gr semi-spitzer / 29.0 gr Alliant 2400 / BR-2 / Hornady brass
  • also Hornady 410gr sub-x about same results
  • non-published loads - safe in my rifle only - no recommendations
  • from my handy 20" barrel .450M Ruger No.1-S with Leupold 2.5x
  • zeroed with 350gr TSX @ 2125 fps reduced loads shoot low & to right aimed with 6 o'clock post
  • should expect lower impact speed expansion with 410gr sub-x & maybe 400gr SSP

. 450 Marlin is already reduced.
It is already a pussycat to shoot, the only thing that makes sense is downloading it to subsonic level... you have to cut your speed another 250 fps to accomplish that. I use the Barnes 400 SP in .458 Win Mag @ 2200, which is about full power in the Marlin, and it absolutely hammers stuff. I'm not sure how it will perform on game @ 1400... but it is already .458", so I imagine they will die... I would want a little more "oomph" on game personally. That bullet is also super accurate in everything I have tried it in.
