I have a 452 17HMR American, the regular barrel. It shoots OK , do folks free float the barrels on these, I see the Varmint models do (I have done so) . The fore end is a tight fit at the end, when a bill is passed it is resistive for 2 or 3 inches then easy to the action from there.
Thanks for any input.

For the most discussions and info about the 452 rifles i'd go over to Rimfire Central. Those guys have pretty much done it all with these fine rifles.

Ideally the barrel is free floated. Sometimes a rifle may leave the factory with some contact between the barrel and the barrel channel of the stock. Check action screw torque and then check to see where contact between the barrel and channel occurs. Remove the barrelled action and sand the barrel channel where needed. You can use a round dowel or socket head or something similar to do the sanding. Refinish the inside of the channel so that it is protected from water. Minwax wipe-on poly does a good job, but anything that seals the newly exposed wood will work.

I would go ahead and free float the barrel on your 452 American but be prepared that it may not be enough to improve the accuracy of your rifle:

I have a 452 American 22 lr in walnut that I bought BNIB. The barrel was not free floated from the factory. It shot about .75 groups at 50 yd with SK Std plus. There was a lot of preload between the stock and the barrel/action because it took quite a bid of sanding to free up the barrel. Only after I got the barrel free floated it became obvious that the action inletting was very loose and the groups opened up even more. Epoxy bedding the action and the first 2.5 inches of the barrel fixed it all up.

I had a 455 in 22 and it was not free floated and was not very accurate. I free floated it and it got worse!, so I messed with pressure pads, bedding, pillars trying to make it shoot half as good as it looked. No dice. Sold her cheap on the EE.

Funny thing was my bro in law bought one the same day I did and had the same issues.

How tight are you guys screwing the action to the stock?
Get a torque wrench and the appropriate bit and get them set , don't be taking any meat out from under the barrel or hogging out the action before tightening the actions.
Remember to use an "inch pound" torque wrench !
Head over to RimFireCentral and search the specs out.
Goodentight isnt good enough.

I have one.

There is a pretty good vid from LRSU about action torque. Made no real difference.

I'll comment before heading over to you tube...
I had to ask the question about torque as I had not seen it addressed.
What sort of human factor have you addressed ?
Less coffee or no coffee before shooting?
Sand bags?
Then again maybe it is the gun and QC has slipped at CZ to promote the been counters and not the craftsmanship?
Thanks for the link and heading into the deep dark hole of you tube...if I am not back someone please take care of my 455!
Tight Groups,
Rob

Rob, you make it back alive?!???

All very good points you bring up there.I know My groups suffered if I had been to the gym a day before the range. It didnt make a difference what I had done at the gym either.

My 455 experience was my last with CZ. I have not had the desire to try again, but I am sure my (and my bro in laws) was a rare thing. CZs are beautiful rifles and have won many titles. Right?

Forgive me Father for I have sinned...
Yeah, started with the .22 stuff then ended with .17 HMR then I end up watching "stop a duche bag" in Russia.
How the hell do I get there is beyond me.
I do have a penchant for CZ's and am looking towards the Kimber of Oregon .22
I only hope it will be satisfied with Porterhouse steak and not expect Fillet Mingion!

Cool vid eh?

And without Russians we would have no hot blondes or good Vodka, well the Russian kind anyway..

You and me both man,

Except for the CZ thing. Lol!

Tell, me. What has your CZ expy been like? I am curious because they are some kinda beautiful rifles and I want to want one, but all I keep thinking is how little hair I have left and how much of it I pulled out on the 455.

I do like the 511/512? Tho

Informative video with results that can not be disputed by any sane CZ shooter

I would suggest you go with your gut feelings...btw what are they telling you?

####e, not meant to hi-jack this thread and do look forward to what results the OP experiences and the direction he is heading.

I'm just a shooter of average means who happens to enjoy CZ , be it 452,453 or the 455.
But, there is something gnawing at me right now and that is the reliability and repeatability of the switch barrel feature of the 455.

While I have never needed this feature I wonder if there is something missing in its engineering?
CZ is using something totally different than what Sako has done with their switch barrels.

Group Therapy is what I need right now, lol.

I had questions on the 455 at first. The more I shot it the better it got. I switch between barrels using the same torque on all screws.
The bolt was smooth and the barrel floated when it came out of the box.
You Dave trigger at 1 lb. Mine shoots .75 to .5 at 50 yrds.

Mine shot .75-1.00 at 50m after tons of mods. That wasnt good enough for what I needed it for, so off she went.
